A wee bit of quilting -

Going on behind the scenes -

Not too much to post about -

But I got the backings made for my May Flowers Sudoku Quilt and my July Americana Sudoku Quilt - and I added them to the "pile to be Free-Motion Quilted" -

Then I did the FMQ in the center portion of a bunch of them - ;))

It's nothing fancy - just lines back and forth from corner to corner - changing direction in alternate blocks. It doesn't need to be marked and it seems to fill in the 9-patches nicely. And since I'm not driven to FMQ a different design in each and every one of my Sudoku quilts - this design does what I want it to do - and I'm happy with it. All I have to do is find a pretty thread color and go for it - ;))

The borders on the May Flowers Sudoku were quilted in a grid pattern with my walking foot. Seems that one corner got folded over - so I had to fix that -

But it wasn't worth it to re-thread the sewing machine with the walking foot to stitch just that little bit - so I decided to FMQ it on the other machine still threaded with the red thread used on the February Valentine's Day Sudoku. It's close enough and nobody will ever notice the color difference unless they look REAL close - or one of you guys tell them - LOL - ;))

All together now -

This shot doesn't look much different than the one I showed on Monday -
Because it isn't - ;))

Grandson #1 actually did the layout on the wall for me -
And I decided that I liked it that way -
So I didn't mess with it much -
Except to switch the top left corner of each block to a "light" if needed -
And we got this -

So - it's all together now -

And needs to be fuse/basted and quilted - ;))

Design Wall Monday - 5/8/17

DESIGN WALL MONDAY -

On my wall today -

The 16-Patch blocks -

Got all of the blocks made - and there are too many to fit on the design wall in my sewing room - so I played with them in the hallway - and realized after I took the photo - that it really is not the best way to photograph the layout - but it's not the final one anyway - so when I get them actually sewn together, I'll do a "floor" shot - and show you that one - so stay tuned - ;))

A few more strip sets -

Ten sets - two blocks per set - should make twenty more blocks -

Got my work play cut out for me -

Strip sets are made - sub-cut them up - make the blocks -

Then the layout/design and re-arranging FUN can begin - ;))

A few more blocks -

I still love playing with these yummy colors -

And made a few more blocks -

They are in no particular order - and the purple ones look a bit out of place right now - but they will have some friends soon - and I think that the bits of purple here and there will add some POP to the blues and greens - ;))

A few blocks -

Love playing with these yummy colors -

I originally wanted to make Flying Geese and HST units from these strips - using my LEFT-EZE™ Rule - but the "slight variations" in the strip widths were messing up the accuracy of my cuts - so I switched to 16-Patch blocks from Wanda's "Wandaful" tutorial - HERE -

They are a bit more forgiving and really show off the yummy colors - ;))

On my wall today -

These are the Flying Geese that I talked about HERE -
Bali Pops™ - Kiwiberry -
By Hoffman California International Fabrics -

I was able to salvage some HST from the wonky cuts -

And I LOVE the yummy colors! - ;))

I played with some layouts from last week and found several that I liked but the fabrics that I chose were a bit boring to me - so I want to rethink that part and play some more before I post any photos - ;))

And I had another one of those "Today is NOT the day!" I "tried" to sew a simple block together and kept messing it up. It was a simple nine-patch - first I sewed the bottom three in the wrong order - and after I fixed that - I sewed it to the TOP instead of the bottom - so I gave up and moved on to something else. I got my Halloween Churn Dash "stitched-in-the-ditch" - so it joined the pile of other sandwiches ready to be quilted. When I tried the nine-patch again the next day, it went together the way it was supposed to. Guess that's one advantage of having several projects going at once. And if it doesn't want to "work" today - maybe it "will" tomorrow - ;))
